Rim Tanon – Thai Restaurant

Rim Tanon – Thai Restaurant

My first ever experience with Thai food was at the Rim Tanon Thai Resturant. I recently had the opportunity to attend a luncheon there.

The restaurant was small and packed, which is usually a tell-tale sign a restaurant is well known and liked.

I went with a large group, and we were seated upon arrival, shortly after our drink orders were placed and delivered promptly. After the drinks came, our orders were taken. Since I have never had Thai food before, I wanted to be safe, so I ordered the Crying Tiger, which was Thai style charbroiled rib-eye steak served with spicy tamarind sauce and steamed vegetables.

The rib-eye at Rim Tanon – Thai Restaurant was large (about 12 oz) and thin. While I usually prefer a thicker cut of steak, this one was thin and super tender, and I have to say, it was seasoned better than some of the finest steakhouses I have dined in. The steak was served on a wooden type plate, which was interesting and pleasant to see something unique. The dish was served with very fresh and very green broccoli and crinkle cut carrots, all steamed to perfection. Also, on the plate was a bowl of tamarind sauce.

While I am not usually a sauce person, this one had me sold. Tamarind sauce is a sweet and somewhat sour sauce, it went excellent with this dish. This meal was delicious. Along with this dish was a small, tiny basket of sticky rice. I thought the sticky rice was like what sushi was made of, but it was somewhat different.  The rice was slightly dry and really stuck together.  I had to take a clump of rice out, break it with my fork, and put some Tamarind sauce on it.

The service was good, and the food was excellent. I would return and recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.  If I returned, I would probably get the rib-eye again unless I felt adventurous, but I would order a different type of rice to go with it.
