Phone apps to save the money on gas have been popping up in the last couple of years. The one I use most frequently is, Gas Buddy App. Gas Buddy app is a nationwide app that shows the price of gas stations near where you are at that time.

The app asks users to update the gas prices as you see them, to keep everything to the current. The points that you receive for updating the costs can be used to enter a drawing for $100.00 of free gas. (I am yet to win)

Gas Buddy now has a free card that is attached to your checking account or another credit card, and this is the one you use to purchase gas. One of the benefits of using this card is you will receive a 5-cent discount per gallon of gas.

Memberships at gas buddy

Gas Buddy has two other types of membership. The Plus Membership is $4.99 a month, you will receive 20 cents a gallon up to 40 gallons a month and then 5 cents a gallon after the 40 gallons. The Premium membership is $6.99 a month with the same 20 cents off a gallon up to 40 gallons, but you also have roadside assistance with this one. 

I have the free membership and get 5 cents a gallon, but I do know people that have the Premium membership and love it. Not only are there savings on gas, but the app has a fuel log to keep track of your purchases and mileage.  A new feature on the app is – recalls for your vehicle. 

The gas buddy app keeps changing and offering more benefits and will be accepted at most stations.  Exxon and Mobil are the only stations that I am aware of that do not take it.  When you pull up the app, it will tell you on the station if it’s not accepted.

Overall, I am pleased with the Gas Buddy app and will continue to use my free membership, at this time I don’t see myself upgrading to the paid membership, but who knows what the future will hold. Maybe if they come out with the new features and perks, I will be reconsidering.
