One item we purchased when we moved to our townhouse is a Google Nest Thermostat. Since this is a favorite of mine I wanted to tell you a little about it.

Ease of Use:

The Nest Learning Thermostat is a smart home device that was first released in 2011 and has since been updated several times.  The Nest Learning Thermostat is available in three colors: white, copper, and stainless steel.

The device connects to your home’s Wi-Fi system and connects to your smartphone or tablet, so you can control it remotely or set up schedules to run when you’re away from home.

The thermostat automatically learns your habits over time and adjusts itself accordingly (for example, if you’re out of town). You can also manually adjust the temperature with a single touch on the device itself or through its app. 

The Nest Learning Thermostat will also work with other Nest devices such as smoke detectors and security cameras.  The Nest Thermostat works with Alexa or Google.

An added feature to this thermostat is to purchase an additional sensor. This sensor can be put in another room (up to 50 ft away) and the sensor will communicate with the Nest as to what the temperature is in that room.  It is possible to have 6 sensors per thermostat.  We have one sensor and  this is essential since we have a two story townhouse. 

Savings:

If you are serious about saving money on your energy bills, the Google Nest Thermostat is a great investment for your home.

The Nest also has a digital display that shows you how much energy you’ve saved and when it’s time to change the filter.

If you commit to using this device, it can save you up to 12% on your energy bills each year.

Installation:

The Nest Learning Thermostat has a simple, minimal design. It doesn’t have as many features as some other smart thermostats, but it does the basics well. It’s easy to install, too — if you’re comfortable with basic DIY projects, you can set up this thermostat in less than 30 minutes.

 The scheduling feature isn’t available without an internet connection. So, if your Wi-Fi goes down, it will not be able to adjust the temperature based on your programmed settings. You’ll need to manually change the temperature yourself until your internet service is restored.

Takeaway: The Google Nest Thermostat may be worth looking into for many people.
